O2 Tamil Movie Review

I can't remember the last time I could completely enjoy a Nayanthara movie without the interference of an irritating mediocre subplot (classic example: Immaikka Nodigal). There is a limit to how much I or anyone can watch Nayanthara being her beautiful self while the story around her goes haywire. My threshold for that crossed when days earlier I had to endure the torture called "Kaathuvaakkula Rendu Kaadhal". After that, her role as Parvathy in O2 is a relief, but too predictable a character in an even more predictable and loosely written plot.

The atrocities we as humans cause on nature is going to cost us big for sure, in fact it’s already happening. A day where we might end up killing each other for basic things like air or water is not very far, which is the core concept, the movie is based on. Appreciate the message the movie is trying to convey, but one could hardly focus on it or be invested in any of the characters, in an extremely passive script. Also I don't know if it was Hotstar or because it was created bilingually, there were major gaps in dubbing just like the loopholes in the story.

The movie is shouldered majorly on Nayanthara, undoubtedly so with the amount of talent she brings to the table. Her moments with her son before the accident are endearing and powerful, but when the action shifts to the bus, the whole plot lacks believability. While I admire how courageous Nayanthara's comeback is and how her team makes her look pretty on screen but there indeed is something called character presentation under circumstances. If you look totally put together while you are stuck underground after an accident and gets hardly any impact of the reducing oxygen levels, it's impossible to root for your character.

Veera, Nayanthara's child played by Rithvik is cute and got talent but the poor child is asked to mouth long sentences which is too evident. VFX and CGI are just as basic as the story is. Lena and the other supporting characters does their best with the average script given to them.

So in conclusion, in this GS Viknesh’s debut project, one can feel his heart is in the right place but I really hope he comes up with better projects in the future.

If you must, you can watch O2 on Hotstar.
